Winston-Salem State University. The name alone conjures up enough excellence to fill a book. Below are just seven reasons why the Rams rule.
While you read, remember: WSSU needs your help to stay strong. The North Carolina Constitution says that public colleges and universities should, “as far as practicable, be extended to the people of the State free of expense.” We take that seriously. We think our elected officials should, too.
1. Rams Heal the State
If you’ve been to a hospital in North Carolina, there’s a good chance you’ve seen a Ram on duty. The School of Health Sciences is one the state’s top producers of nurses.
2. Amazing Art
The Diggs Gallery has been called one of the country’s top ten African-American art galleries. And the Smithsonian called it one the best regional contemporary African art facilities in the country.
3. Rams Give Back Beyond The Campus
WSSU’s I-Rise Literacy Academy helps children improve their ability to read.
4. Red Sea of Sound Marching Band
There’s no parting this Red Sea! In 2014, the band will appear at the Honda Battle of the Bands for the fifth time.
5. You Can Major in Motorsports Management
WSSU claims the first Motorsports Management Bachelor of Science program in the country.
6. Educating the Educators
In 1925, WSSU became the nation’s first African-American institution to grant teaching degrees in elementary education. The Rams’ commitment to preparing educators is still going strong today.
7. School Spirit!
One example of Ram pride: this rap about the school. A rap that awesomely contains the WSSU motto: “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve.”
