RALEIGH (November 10, 2022) – A particular disappointment in election results Tuesday was Rep. Ricky Hurtado’s loss of his state House seat in Alamance County.
The 2020 census revealed that Hispanics now account for nearly 11% of North Carolina’s population.1
If Hispanic/Latino residents enjoyed proportional representation in the General Assembly, they would occupy 17 or 18 of the legislature’s 170 seats.
With Hurtado’s loss, they will hold zero.
