WILMINGTON – The formula doesn’t change to make UNC Wilmington even greater.
The university must continue to recruit quality students and professors and build innovative programs, Chancellor Jose “Zito” Sartarelli says in the accompanying video.
Sartarelli, himself a native of Brazil, wants to double the 1,000 UNCW students who currently study overseas – by next year.
“I’d like to provide to all of our students … the opportunity to go overseas,” he says. “I think it’s a maturing process when you do that.”
Recognizing that it’s increasingly difficult to define a “typical” college student, Sartarelli lists six categories of students he’d like to see increase at UNCW: Freshmen, transfers from community colleges, military students, and online, international and graduate students.
The vision, he says, is for UNC Wilmington to be recognized for “excellence in everything we do,” for an inclusive global mindset, and for community engagement – engagement with Southeastern North Carolina, with the state and with the world.
