In addition to the award for Lindsay Recchie from NC State University, employees at several other UNC system campuses were recognized Tuesday with the Governor’s Award for Excellence:
Lebra Nance of UNC Charlotte’s William States Lee College of Engineering “radiates positivity” and treats students as if they are her own children, her coworkers and former students say. Nance guides mechanical engineering students through their entire academic experience, from planning classes to finding jobs. But she also welcomes students even if they aren’t mechanical engineering majors.
TaWanna Archia of the UNC School of the Arts volunteers for multiple charities in Winston-Salem. She founded I’m My Sister’s Keeper, a support group for victims of domestic violence, after a member of her church was killed in an abusive relationship.
Robert Walker of UNC Greensboro spent 300-400 hours designing a system that alerts students by email when they have mail. Not only that, but it delivers the mail to mailboxes on an “as-needed” basis, eliminating the need to install new locks or combinations on thousands of mailboxes every year and saving the university tens of thousands of dollars.
